Book a ConsultationSurgical curettage is a periodontal procedure that involves the careful removal of the infected, inflamed, and diseased soft tissue (epithelial lining) from the inside wall of periodontal pockets. Using specialized curettes, the dentist scrapes away the chronically inflamed tissue that cannot heal on its own. This creates a fresh wound surface that allows healthy granulation tissue to form and the gums to properly reattach to the tooth roots. Curettage may be performed alone or in combination with flap surgery for comprehensive treatment.
Local anesthesia is administered to ensure complete comfort during the procedure.
The gum tissue is gently separated or reflected to access the inner pocket lining if necessary.
Specialized curettes are used to carefully scrape and remove the diseased epithelial lining from the pocket walls.
The treated area is thoroughly irrigated to remove debris and reduce bacterial load.
The gum tissue is repositioned and may be sutured. A periodontal dressing may be applied to protect the area.
